Make Up Basic & Essential Must-Knows/Tips : Highlighting

Highlighting to eccentuate your features;
-Tear Duct
Highlighting the tear duct area will instantly make you look more awake and make your eyes appear brighter.
-Brow Bone
Highlighting the brow bone will give an uplift to your eyes as it makes your eyebrow arc appear higher.
-Nosebridge
Highlighting your nosebridge (as wells as contouring the sides of your nose) will help to give an illusion that you have a higher and sharper nose.
-Cupid's Bow
Highlighting your cupid's bow will give an illusion of fuller looking lips and create a bit of a pout.
-Cheek Bones
Applying a highlight on your cheekbones(and contouring the hollows of your cheeks) will instantly make you look like you have high cheekbones and make your face appear slimmer.

Nicki Minaj Inspired Eyeshadow Look

I love how Nicki is so bold with her make up. This is my spin on her look in the 2 photos above.

Products used:
  • Silkygirl Funky Eyelights Pencil in 08 Frosty Silver
  • Rhomlon Retractable Eyebrow Pencil
  • Avon Kohl Eyeliner in U01 Black Noir
  • Rhomlon Elegance Waterproof Dipliner in Black
  • False Eyelashes from Chamelon in number #019
  • Teal/Navy Blue Eyeshadows (120 Matte Colour palette), Copper Matte Brown Eyeshadow (Rhomlon 48 Colour Palette), Single Fleshtone Highlight Eyeshadow (Unik Colors in E-16 Nude)
  • Silkygirl Double Intense Waterproof Mascara in 01 Very Black
How to achieve this look:
  • Firstly, you'd want to apply an eyeshadow primer/base all over your eyelids to prevent your eyeshadows from creasing and since we are using vibrant colours, priming your eyelids will also help to make your eyeshadows appear brighter.
  • Next, I used a flat shader brush and applied a turquoise eyeshadow all over my eyelids, not going pass the crease. I used an eyeshadow from my 120 matte eyeshadow palette.

  • Then, I used a mini fluffy eyeshadow brush and mixed 2 navy/dark blue eyeshadows and I applied them on the outer corner of my eyelids. You could use an angled brush to get a sharper angel or simply just place a tape at the outer corner of your eyes before you start! I used 2 eyeshadows from the same 120 matte colour palette.

  • Next, using a fluffy blending brush, I took a copper matte brown eyeshadow from my Rhomlon 48 colour eyeshadow palette and applied it in my crease.

  • Then, using a liquid eyeliner, I lined my top lashline and added a bit of a wing at the outer corner of my eye. I used my Rhomlon Elegance Waterproof Dipliner in Black.

  • Curl your lashes and apply mascara to both your top and lower lashes. I used Silkygirl Double Intense Waterproof Mascara in 01 Very Black

  • You know Nicki Minaj is big on eyelashes so you cannot pass this step up! Grab your most dramatic pair of falsies and put them on. I used my False Eyelashes from Chamelon in number #019.

  • Line your waterline with a kohl eyeliner pencil to deepen the look slightly. I used Avon Kohl Eyeliner in U01 Black Noir.

  • Next, to brighten up the eyes a little bit, use a silver eyeliner pencil or a glitter liner would work just as fine and apply it to the inner two-thirds of your lower lashline. I used Silkygirl Funky Eyelights Pencil in 08 Frosty Silver. (Excuse the picture by the way. Mine's a bit beaten up, have had mine for quite some time already :P)

  • And as usual, apply a flesh tone eyeshadow at your brow bone as a highlight using a densed shader brush. I used  Single Fleshtone Highlight Eyeshadow (Unik Colors in E-16 Nude).

  • And last but not least, define your eyebrows to complete the look and to frame your face. I used Rhomlon Retractable Eyebrow Pencil.

And you guys are done!! I hope you guys have fun trying this look out and don't be afriad to unleash your inner Nicki Minaj! And if you do, send me a picture :) Take care.

    Rhomlon 48 Colour Eyeshadow Palette

I got this 48 colour eyeshadow palette a few years back because obviously you can see some of the colours I've actually already hit pan. It has a mixture of both shimmery and matte eyeshadow. The shimmery eyeshadows are mostly frosty so they don't really have big chunky glitter, except for a purple eyeshadow (bottom corner/2nd from the right). The eyeshadows are VERY pigmented and it's actually a very cheap eyeshadow palette as well! I believe I bought it for less than SGD$10 so I thought it was a good steal for the variety of pigmented eyeshadows. Oh and it also came with 2 double-ended sponge applicator. That's it, I guess! :)

    120 Matte Colour Eyeshadow Palette

I got this last year as a gift from my sisters for my 17th birthday. It's a matte 120 colour eyeshadow palette. It's a fake MAC eyeshadow palette my sister bought online. (It doesn't give me irritation of any sort so it's safe.) The colour pay off is good but only for most colours. But overall, the eyeshadows are fairly pigmented. You just need to build up on the colours and use packing motions when applying it on your eyelids. Oh and may I just say that I love how it's organised in transition of the different colours.  So yeah, that's basically my mini review on it :)

    Leopard Print Eyeshadow

    Products used:
    •  Luminous Eyeshadow from Elianto in Pale Yellow
    • Duo Eyeshadow from Wet 'N' Wild in 06 Copper Dust
    • Double Intense Gel Eyeliner from Silkygirl in 01 Pure Black
    • Maybelline Volum' Express Turbo Boost Waterproof Mascara
    • Avon Kohl Eyeliner in UO1 Black Noir
    • Maybelline Liquid Eyeliner by Eyestudio in 2 Dark Brown
    • Rhomlon Retractable Eyebrow Pencil
    How to achieve this look:
    • Apply an eyeshadow base/primer all over your eyelid to prevent the eyeshadow from creasing. This will help your eyeshadow appear more vibrant and make it last longer.
    • Using a flat shader brush, apply a bronze eyeshadow all over your eyelid (not going pass your crease). I used the bronze eyeshadow from my Duo Eyeshadow from Wet 'N' Wild in 06 Copper Dust

    • Then with a gel eyeliner and an angled brush, do a dramatic winged eyeliner on your upper lash line. I used the Double Intense Gel Eyeliner from Silkygirl in 01 Pure Black.
    •  Next, I used a brown liquid eyeliner to draw on the leopard prints. Draw random half "C" shapes and small bracket like shape on your eyelid but only where the bronze eyeshadow is applied. (This may require some practice so try and doing it on the back of your hand before you actually do it on you eyelid!) I chose to use a brown liquid eyeliner because it will give a nice contrast between the black eyeliner but at the same time it's still in the same colour family as the eyeshadow. For this I used the Maybelline Liquid Eyeliner by Eyestudio in 2 Dark Brown.
    • Apply a highlight colour on your brow bone. I used  Luminous Eyeshadow from Elianto in Pale Yellow.

    •   I then lined my waterline with a kohl eyeliner to intensify the look and also brought it a bit further down to my lower lashline. I used Avon Kohl Eyeliner in UO1 Black Noir and then set it with a matte black eyeshadow from my 120 colour palette with an angled brush so it doesn't budge.

    • To finish off the look, I curled my lashes and applied a few coats of mascara on my top and lower lashes just because I'm not going to use fake eyelashes for this look. (It's pretty dramatic, so I'll keep it simple for the lashes but you guys can go ahead and falsies if you'd prefer) I used Maybelline Volum' Express Turbo Boost Waterproof Mascara.

    • Lastly, fill in your brows. I used Rhomlon Retractable Eyebrow Pencil.

And you guys are basically done!! I tried doing a video tutorial but  I keep going out of frame, it frustrates me. I hope you guys have fun trying this out and that my blog post "tutorial" was helpful :)
